Frank Zane

  • Nickname: The Chemist
  • Born: June 28, 1942
  • Height: 5’9″ (175cm)
  • Weight: 185 lb (84 kg) (contest) 200 lb (91 kg) (off-season)
  • Pro Debut: Mr. Pennsylvania, 1961
  • Best Win: IFBB Mr. Olympia, 1977–1979
  • Predecessor: Franco Columbu
  • Successor: Arnold Schwarzenegger

By The Numbers: Pro Comps: 24 | 1st Places: 7 | 2nd Places: 4 | 3rd Places: 2 | Arnold Classic Wins: n/a | Mr. Olympia Wins: 3.

Mr America, Mr Universe and 3x Mr Olympia are just some of the titles next to Frank Zane’s name. But it’s not just the titles that make Zane one of the greatest to ever grace the stage, it’s that classic v-taper and perfect symmetry, that at 74 years old he to this day, still shows signs of. Might we add that Frank was one of only three bodybuilders to ever beat Arnold Schwarzenegger in a contest – can you name the other two?

Additionally, Zane is one of the very few Mr. Olympia winners under 200 pounds. Overall, he competed for over 20 years (retiring after the 1983 Mr. Olympia) and won Mr. America, Mr. Universe, and Mr. Olympia during his career.

Frank’s reign represented a shift in emphasis from mass to aesthetics. Zane’s physique featured the second thinnest waistline of all the Mr. Olympias (after Sergio Oliva), with his wide shoulders making for a distinctive V-taper.

He was given the nickname “The Chemist” due to his Bachelor of Science degree and, as he puts it: “Back in the day I took a lot of supplements and tons of amino acids. Still do. But back then it was pretty unusual. That’s how I got the nickname The Chemist.”

Dexter Jackson

  • Nickname: The Blade
  • Born: November 25, 1969
  • Height: 5’6″ (168 cm)
  • Weight: 225 Lbs (102 kg) (contest)
  • Pro Debut: 1999 Arnold Classic
  • Best Win: Mr. Olympia, 2008
  • Predecessor: Jay Cutler
  • Successor: Phil Heath

By The Numbers: Pro Comps: 84 | 1st Places: 30 | 2nd Places: 14 | 3rd Places: 17 | Arnold Classic Wins: 9 | Mr. Olympia Wins: 1.

Dexter Jackson is bodybuilding most accoladed pro athlete and a look at his stats prove some serious consistency over 25 years of professional competition. It’s really quite astonishing – He’s competed in 85 comps, 9 Arnold Classic (including international) Wins (the most ever), 1 Mr Olympia, 30 wins in total and placed top 3 in 61 total pro comps.

Here’s some more stats:

  • As of 2016, Jackson has won a record-setting 28 IFBB professional bodybuilding titles.
  • As of 2016, Jackson has made a record-setting 17 Mr. Olympia appearances.
  • Jackson has won the Arnold Classic five times (2005, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2015), more than any other bodybuilder.

In just his first Pro season Dexter showed he was going to force going forward after taking 7th, 3rd and 9th in the Arnold Classic, Night of Champions and Mr Olympia respectively. Now 17 years on, at the age of 47 “The Blade” is still a strong contender on the pro circuit, but with a string of Arnold Classic wins and a coveted Mr Olympia Title.
